The Technology Debate: The Final Straw

Monday, July 26th, 2010

So the World Cup party is starting to settle down and the inevitable fallout is in full swing. England’s early exit was a huge disappointment for fans but that somber mood could have been pure bitter anger had the game have swung on England’s second goal which was disallowed by the referee.

After the game, fans meekly tried to insist that the result would have been different had the second goal been called in, the truth is that the three lions were outclassed by a much more cohesive, effective German side. Some even saw this as a positive, because, had the score remained 2-1 to the Germans in lieu of England’s equalizer, the sport would have been brought into disrepute.

Sep Blatter, FIFA top dog finally admitted two weeks after the game that goal-line cameras needed to be introduced to eradicate the possibiliity of similar occurrences in the future and bring football into line with other sports that have used technology successfully for years. Cameras on the goal-line are an obvious choice but other techniques suggested are a unified communications network between the officials allowing lightning fast negotiations to keep the game flowing.

With regards to the specific technology used, Voice Over IP Phone headsets have been suggested for their ease of use and ability to host multiple conversations at once. This way the referee would have access to instantaneous communications with linesmen. There are some naysayers who champion the theory that such technology would slow the pace of the game, but in sports like tennis which use the Cyclops device , player disputes with umpires have been greatly reduced which actually serves to keep the action going.

All it takes is a camera set on the goal-line and an IP Phone system for officials, ease of implementation and cost is hardly an issue considering the millions of pounds circulating in English football currently. While Blatter has commented that the sport should be kept as traditional as possible with the Premireship sharing strong ties with Sunday league football, players’ bloated wage packets surely negates this argument.

The sport needs to embrace technological advances and quickly, there are far too many instances of clear goals being disallowed with potentially catastrophic consequences. Football is stuck in the dark ages and technology is the only thing that can drag it out. Let us all pray that Blatter sees sense, at least before the next World Cup.

Find Out How An Agility Ladder Can Help Improve Your Speed And Agility Training Program

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Do you even realize what an agility ladder is?  I don’t mean the one you lean up next to the house to perform home repairs. The ladder I am referring to would be the one that strength coaches like myself utilize for athletic accomplishment. The agility ladder seems to be just like a ladder in its outline excepting it is made of plastic and a material similar to rope Its made of this material so it is easy to position it flat over the floor in order to perform speed agility and quickness work outs.
The main objective for the agility ladder plan would be to promote a wide selection of assorted foot and movement routines. These actions develop into automatic, and then the body is able to immediately act in response to the various angles required. You are able to perfect your agility as a result of practicing the actions in training and the agility ladder is really a helpful tool in a good agility program.
The cool feature about doing this kind of agility ladder training drills is that it is possible to complete them virtually wherever you’ve got a small level open area. Your lawn, a park, as well as local high school football playing field all work as great locations to put into practice the use of these kind of workouts. You’ll be able to develop your footwork along with hand-eye control by doing high-knee runs, shuffles, in addition to bounding work outs all through the rungs within the ladder. Most of these workouts must be executed keeping appropriate running techniques and form. They should also be performed in an intense manner to get the complete gain. Agility ladder work outs are excellent and you can basically replicate them in a number of ways to accomplish both foot speed drills and agility ladder routines. For people with a somewhat long driveway or patio and you do not wish to spend the money to buy a ladder then you could simply make your own by using a bit of colored duct tape that you locate at your neighborhood hardware shop! Say you decided to try this way make sure that the ladder is no less than 5 yards in length.
You can use more than 20 separate speed drills that are generally used with an agility ladder and all of them help improve fast twitch muscle groups. The work outs vary from lateral travel side steps, to front steps with staggered movement. All work outs require fast and explosive movement’s .These movements are what are behind the growth of the fast twitch muscle fibers.
Even a track participant is going to benefit from this sort of workout. The track participant will be able to get out of the blocks sooner which translates into quick run times. The best training for speed will incorporate an agility ladder, but also some overall speed and agility training, appropriate nutrition and eating plan, as well as suitable core training to get the most out of the athlete’s results.
You’re going to get a quick feel about what genuine cardio is like when it comes to this form of workout! Improve your performance right now. Step up your work out to get the outcomes you desire.

Aero Grooves Of Jabulani Making This The Most Stable And Most Accurate Adidas Ball Ever

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

World Cup 2010 Ball

The Jabulani Adidas is the official match ball for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The ball was unveiled in Cape Town, South Africa. Jabulani means “rejoice” in Zulu, and was developed at Loughborough University, UK.

The ball was also used as the match ball of 2009 FIFA Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, and a special version of the ball, the Jabulani Angola, was the match ball of the 2010 African Cup of Nations. This ball is also used in the 2010 Clausura Tournament of Argentina as well as the 2010 MLS season in the USA in the league’s colours of blue and green.

The Jabulani has four triangular design elements on a white background. Eleven different colours are used, representing the eleven players on a football team, the eleven official languages of South Africa, and the eleven South African communities.

The Jabulani Angola, used at the 2010 African Cup of Nations in Angola, was coloured to represent the yellow, red, and black of the host nation’s flag. A gold version of the Jabulani ball, was announced as the ball for the World Cup Final. The name of the ball inspired by the city of Johannesburg, which is often nicknamed Jo’burg and will be the site of the 2010 Final.

The Jabulani balls are made in China, using latex bladders made in India, thermoplastic polyurethane-elastomer from Taiwan, ethylene vinyl acetate, isotropic polyester/cotton fabric, glue, and ink from China.

The Jabulani is going to be every striker’s greatest Christmas gift and every goalkeeper’s nightmare. To be honest, I can’t wait to see Cristiano Ronaldo strike this Jabulani Soccer Ball because when he does it could be spectacular! I spent some time taking shots and it absolutely pings. The Jabulani is a very light ball and when you strike it clean it moves fast. In a sense, it reminds me of a plastic ball and it sounds plastic when you bounce it.

One of customer review is Fernando Robledo. Here is what he said about World Cup 2010 Ball“Best Soccerball ever. Now I know why soccer players kick hard and move fast. It’s all about the Ball.”

Italy’s Soccer Future

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Italian Marcelo Lippi has faced a number of soccer pundit jokes this season due to the age of his team.  The team is very likely to be fairly new by the Brazilian World Cup, when athletes such as 32 year-old Gianluigi Buffon, 36 year-old Fabio Cannavaro, 32 year-old Gennaro Gattuso, and other players like Andrea Pirlo (31), Gianluca Zambrotta (33), Vincenzo Iaquinta (30), Mauro Camoranesi (33), and Antonio Di Natale (32) are sure to be gone from the team.  Who will Lippi or his successor choose to replace the team?

Lorenzo De Silvestri    Defender     (Fiorentina)    Aged 22
De Silvestri, a former full back for Lazio, is slightly over six feet tall.  After a 2009 move to Fiorentina, De Silvestri has exemplified the form that set him apart whilst playing for Italy’s U16 and U21 teams. A marauding, powerful full back, he gets forward well and looks to be a possible long term replacement for Gianluca Zambrotta in the national team.

Davide Santon        Defender    (Inter)        Aged 19
Able to play down either flank, Santon is a hugely talented young defender who made 28 appearances for Inter this season as well as five appearances already for the Azzuri. Santon’s energy is boundless; his energy on the pitch has earned him a comparison to Paolo Maldini by Italian head coach Marcelo Lippi. We can expect to see the immensely talented Santon in the Italy’s next few squads for major finals events.

Mario Balotelli        (Striker)    (Inter)        Aged 19
Although Mario Balotelli can be quick to anger and temperamental, his skill as an attack and winger has given Italy hope for a strong squad when he starts wearing the Italy jersey.  Despite his tender years and numerous run ins with fans and management at Inter, Balotelli has scored an impressive 20 goals in 59 games and has notched 6 in 16 for the Italian U21 side. His time will surely come in the Euro 2012 qualifiers when Italy are going to need a new look strike force.

Federico Macheda    (Striker)    (Man Utd)    Aged 18
Although he has yet to make the first team on a regular basis at Old Trafford, the signs are promising that Manchester United’s talented striker could have a big 2010-2011 season and perhaps even force his way into the thoughts of the Azzuri management team. The striker’s strength and intelligence make him a force to be reckoned with, especially in terms of goal scoring. His particular talent is scoring with his back to the goal, and he has been capped at U21 for Italy; if Macheda makes a difference in the first team for United, he should end up with a spot on the Italian national squad.

Antonio Candreva    (Midfielder)    Udinese    Aged 23
Finding a replacement for Andrea Pirlo may be the Italian sides greatest challenge in the next few years and one possible replacement could be Candreva. The Udinese midfielder, who is being touted as making his loan move during last season to Juventus more permanent, is versatile enough to play anywhere in midfield but seems to excel in the holding, creative role so favoured by Pirlo.
